Grimsby Philharmonic Society and Grimsby Bach Choir will be joining forces in April 2011 to sing one of the most awe inspiring works in the choral repertoire – Verdi’s Requiem. This monumental piece of music was intended by the composer to be performed on a grand scale and the combined choir and a 48-strong orchestra will be on the stage of the Grimsby Central Hall on 16th April 2011.

A joint concert with 'Kammerchor Oberpleis e.V. Konigswinter'.  Will include works from  Rutter - Requiem and Bernstein's Chichester Psalms.  Our conductor: Susan Hollingworth with the Eastern Sinfonia orchestra.

Karl Jenkins "The Armed Man: A Mass For Peace" is the result of a special millennial commission from the Royal Armouries.  It include different texts within the usual Mass form, including Malory, Dryden, Swift, Tennyson, Kipling, The Koran and the Hindu Mahàbharàta

It is the latest in a six century old tradition of "Armed Man" masses that take the fifteenth century French song "L'Homme Armé" as their starting point.

An old friend comes back to Grimsby on Saturday 24 April when the Phil will present Handel’s Messiah. Although the society has sung this work at regular intervals over the years, each concert offers the opportunity for different interpretation of this well-known oratorio.
