There are several important happenings in the coming year, the most important for us being our 160th Anniversary, on 3rd February. Later that same month, the Grimsby Dock Tower will also be 160 years old and of course the Queen celebrates her Diamond Jubilee this year.
Truly a year for celebrations!
After the excitement and great enjoyment of singing the Verdi Requiem with our friends in the Grimsby Bach Choir, this season begins with something very different, a concert version of Smetana’s comic opera The Bartered Bride. Set in a mid-C19th Bohemian village, with colourful folk-like melodies and vigorous dance rhythms, this is an appealing tale of true love thwarting the best-laid schemes of ambitious parents and a cunning match-maker.
There will be no Carol Concert this year; instead we are marking our 160th Anniversary with the welcome return of Richard Howarth and his Manchester Sinfonia to lead us in an ever-popular Viennese Evening. Then to end the season, with the Queen’s Jubilee and the Olympics in mind, a programme of patriotic music.
All Concerts are at the Central Hall, Duncombe Street, Grimsby.
